Sigmund Malter, CFA
Founder & CEO
Sigmund has over 11 years’ experience in the energy, finance and transportation industries.
Prior to founding Zinc Energy in July 2017, Sigmund provided strategic insights and direction for vibrant energy retailers Dodo Power and Gas and Commander Power and Gas. He also ran the trading desk at Pacific Hydro for a $1.5 billion Australian renewable energy portfolio, and has provided energy market analytics and insights for AGL and Aurora Energy.
He is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder, and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mathematics and Computer Science.
Charles Rendigs
Business Development Adviser
Charles has over 11 years’ experience in providing business development services and advisory to Australian energy efficiency companies, as well as to a diverse range of start-ups.
Before joining Zinc Energy, Charles worked across leading renewable companies such as Thermoshield, Green Street Consulting, Climate Friendly and Village Green Environmental Solutions.
His expertise spans both government and private industry on carbon energy projects and carbon management solutions, compliance and reporting requirements for environmental energy regulations, as well as energy saving, technical data and cost effectiveness.
Prior to moving to Australia in 2004, Charles was based in New York City where he worked with his father on Wall Street.
Charles is a member of the Australian Institute of Energy as a National Director and as Deputy Chair of the Melbourne Branch. Charles is on the Stewards Council of Living Legacy Forests and is an active member of the Carbon Market Institute and Facility Management Association. He was on the Engineers Australia Technical Committee for the National Electrical Energy Conference 2017.
Charles holds a Bachelor of Science in Broadcasting, Film and Computer Science.
David Lee
Strategy Adviser
David is a senior executive with over 30 years’ experience across consulting, engineering, construction, manufacturing and diversified services industries. He is known for his leadership, advisory and commercial acumen.
Before joining Zinc Energy, David was the CEO of engineering consulting companies Pacific Services Group, O’Donnell Griffin and Baulderstone Hornibrook PNG.
For many years he has been instrumental in providing strategic consulting, delivering change and transformation as well as leading growth.
David holds a Graduate Diploma in Construction Management and a Bachelor of Engineering.
John Patitsas
Executive General Manager – Energy Markets
John is a senior financial markets professional with extensive domestic and international experience in investments, derivatives and structured products as a trader, business developer and manager in London, Melbourne and Switzerland.
John began his career in commodities trading and finance with Credit Suisse, successfully transacting complex financial hedging structures for central banks, mining houses and hedge funds. John headed up the global precious metals department for Commerzbank before moving back to Melbourne to work in the newly deregulated energy market as Originator for Shell owned, EdgeCap.
John has transacted with generators and retailers developing wholesale and retail products and services in electricity, gas, environmental, demand side, hybrids and PPA’s. He also founded a start-up providing risk management and trading services to energy retailers and generators in Australia.
Before joining Zinc, John was Commercialisation Manager at Hydro Tasmania, originating for both the wholesale and retail book.
John is actively involved with South Melbourne FC and served as Vice President.
John holds a Bachelor of Business degree, Banking & Finance, from Monash University, Post-Graduate Diploma in Finance from the University of Melbourne and a Diploma of Financial Services (AFMA).
Lena Sim
Middle Office Manager
Lena Sim is an experienced energy professional with over 20 years of energy market experience in Australia.
Before joining Zinc Energy, Lena was the Regulatory Compliance and Risk Officer working within the wholesale division for Lumo Energy/Snowy Hydro.
Lena has proven track record in mitigating contractual risks and compliance within Middle/Back Office at Powercor, Origin and Lumo Energy.
She has worked on process procedure and as well as billing system upgrade including the management of customer data migration.
Lena brings a wealth of knowledge across wholesale contractual management, risk and compliance.
She is a Chartered Secretary and also a member of Governance Institute of Australia.
Petr Karel, PhD
Adviser
Petr is an expert in international investment, international finance and the delivery of innovative European technologies and financial solutions to Australia for the energy, infrastructure and mining industries.
As well as acting in an advisory capacity for Zinc Energy, Petr is Managing Director of Prague-based London Market, which is involved in structured finance, international trade and investments, and a director of Austral Invest, which manages the investments of Central European clients in Australia.
He has a Law Degree from Charles University, Prague, an economics PHD from the University of Economics in Prague (International Economic Relations) and studied postgraduate courses at King´s College London.
Petr has held key roles at the European Commission and at GE Capital CEE and General Electric, and is currently Visiting Lecturer at the University of Economics and Charles University (FSV), Prague, a Member of the Ethical and Arbitration Committee of the Presidium of the Czech Banking Association and Vice Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce, Prague.
Our history
Zinc Energy was formed in July 2017 by CEO Sigmund Malter and has rapidly expanded its expertise and capability.
The company successfully raised seed funding in November 2017 and was granted an Australian Financial Services Licence for wholesale energy trading in May 2018.
Zinc Energy is a member of the Smart Energy Council.
